FMS:EMPLOYEE UI UPDATE
In 2024-2025 I partnered with external engineering team to modernize the FM:Systems’ legacy Employee product (also known as Resource Scheduler or RSWeb), ensuring alignment with Johnson Controls’ corporate identity and Element Design System.

HOW IT STARTED
In 2023, Johnson Controls acquired FM:Systems to strengthen and expand its OpenBlue digital buildings platform, adding powerful workplace and facility management software to its portfolio. FM:Systems brings cloud‑based SaaS tools, including space planning, asset management, and IoT‑driven workplace insights, which complement Johnson Controls’ existing smart‑building technologies.
In short, FM:Systems gives Johnson Controls a deeper software layer to power smarter, healthier, and more efficient buildings.

THE BIG PLAN
After Johnson Controls acquired FM:Systems it was decided that the Johnson Controls' OpenBlue Companion product and the FM:Systems Employee product (also known as Resource Scheduler or RSWeb) would be combined into a single product solution called "OpenBlue Employee".
The integration is designed to unify the employee experience with workplace intelligence. OpenBlue Companion provides the front‑end app for booking, navigation, and daily workplace services, while FM:Systems Employee adds back‑end space management and occupancy insights. Together, they deliver a seamless, data‑driven platform that simplifies hybrid work, optimizes space use, and strengthens decision‑making for both employees and facility managers.

THE PROBLEM
While our team works on the new OpenBlue Employee product, the FMS:Employee legacy product needed attention regarding it's dated UI.
Clients wanted a cleaner, more intuitive, more modern interface that aligned with the Johnson Controls brand and their Element Design System, delivering a unified experience across the broader OpenBlue product suite.
THE SOLUTION
This needed to be done as quickly and as seamlessly as possible. To achieve this I partnered with an external engineering team to modernize the FM:Systems’ legacy Employee product (also known as "Resource Scheduler), ensuring alignment with Johnson Controls’ corporate identity and Element Design System.

THE RESULT
The updated FM:Systems Employee UI, rebuilt with the Johnson Controls' OpenBlue Element Design System, delivered a cleaner, more consistent, and intuitive experience. It improved navigation, boosted usability, and aligned the product with JCI’s modern design standards, resulting in higher user satisfaction.
The design solutions I developed for this project formed the foundation for updates across the rest of FM:Systems’ FMS:Employee product suite.
